The August Offer put forward by the Viceroy of India, Lord Linlithgow on 8th August 1940, was an effort by the British Government to appease the Indian Congress leaders, Indian masses and minority communities so as to gather there support for the British war efforts. Proposals put forward through the August Offer to be completed on the only condition that British Government should get full and dedicated support of Indian Politicians and masses in their war efforts.
Proposals put forward by August Offer 1940 are as follows -
As soon as the war will finish a Constitution Making Body of India will be immediately constituted.
A War Advisory Council would be set up.
The strength of the Indians in the Viceroy's Executive Council would be increased.
