Capital Cities of Africa Continent - World Geography

1. Tunis - It is the capital of Tunisia and a major port city. It is country’s industrial and cultural city. Cotton cloth, petroleum, chemical industry have developed a lot. It is famous for wine made of Grapes. Mediterranean climate is found here. 

2. Khartoum - Located on the confluence of Blue Nile and While Nile Rivers. It is the capital of Sudan. It is country’s largest city. It is famous by the name of ‘Key of Sudan’. It is a big commercial centre for grains, feathers of Ostrich and Cotton. 

3. Cairo - Located along the coast of River Nile, it is Egypt’s capital and an ancient cultural city. It is a major centre of Islamic culture and education. Near it, world famous Pyramids are located which always attract archaeologists, scientists and tourist. 

4. Nairobi - Located on the Kenyan Highlands and it is the country’s capital and the largest city. It is famous for tea farming. Abardor National Park is located near it. Headquarters of many international organizations are located here, like – UNEP. 

5. Maputo - Located in southern Mozambique, it is the capital and largest city of the country. It is also an important port. Mozambique’s first oil refinery was established here. An international airport is located and chemical and textile industry has developed. 

6. Accra - Located on Greenwich Line, it is the capital of Ghana. It is country’s major port and the largest city. Cocoa, Diamonds and wood are exported from here. 

7. Luanda - Located along Atlantic Ocean coast, it is capital and largest city of Angola. It is a natural port and a cultural centre. Petroleum, Diamonds, Iron, Sisal and timber are exported from here. 

8. Dodoma - It is the capital of Tanzania and is located in the central part of the country. Country’s higher education centres and universities have been established here. 

9. Lilongwe - It is the capital of Malawi and is situated in the southern part of Malavi. It is a primate city and cultural city of country. 

10. Bamako - Situated on the bank of Niger River, it is the capital, primate city and industrial, commercial and cultural centre of Mali. 

11. Libreville - It is the capital and Major sea port of the Gabon. It is situated along the coast of the South Atlantic Ocean. Initially, it was a refuge for the slave. 

12. Juba - It is the capital of newly famred country South Sudan. It is a primate city and cultural city of country. 

13. N'Djamena - Situated on the confluence of Chari and Logone Rivers, it is the capital, primate city and cultural city of Chad. 

14. Harare - Located on Mashonaland Plateau, it is the capital and largest city of Zimbabwe. It is important for Tobacco, fertilizer and food processing industry. 

15. Tshwane - It is the administrative capital of South Africa. Earlier its name was Pretoria. Its population is about 5 lakhs. It is famous for diamond mining. 

16. Abuja - It is the new capital of Nigeria, which is situated in middle part. An international airport is located here. It is planned and beautiful city. 

17. Lusaka - Capital and the largest city of Zambia. A big wildlife sanctuary is located near it. It is situated on a rail route passing through Livingstone. 

18. Mogadishu - Located along the coast of Indian Ocean, it is the capital of Somalia. It is an important port. This city has suffered a lot due to civil war. An international airport is located here. Cement and sugar industry have developed here. 

19. Kinshasa(Leopoldville) - Capital and the largest city of Democratic Republic of Congo. Cotton cloth, craft making, tobacco and cigar making are the major industries here. 

 20. Algiers - It is the capital of Algeria and the country’s largest city and port. It is an important centre for tobacco industry, flour mills and tourism industry. It is also an important centre for the export of petroleum, chemicals and agricultural items. This city was founded by the Phoenicians. It has many mosques and historical monuments. 

21. Gaborone - It is the capital of Botswana Republic. Country’s international airport is located here. It is a centre for food processing. 

22. Antananarivo - It is the capital of Madagascar. Graphite and Chromite are exported from here. Rice mills are located here in large numbers. It exports large amount of Vanila. 

23. Windhock - Located in eastern part of Namib Desert, it is the capital of Namibia and a major industrial and cultural city. It is a centre for food processing. 

24. Dakar - Located along Atlantic Ocean coast, it is the capital and largest city of Senegal. It is a centre for Groundnut processing, food processing, car manufacturing and chemical industry. It is a major port of the country. 

25. Abidjan - Located along Guinea coast, it is the capital of Cote D lvory. It is a major port of 
country. It is major centre of timber, Palm oil, Coffee and Iron-Steel Industry. 

26. Niamey - This is the capital and primate city of Niger. Its population is about four lakh. Situated along the banks of Niger River. It is a river port and trade and cultural centre. 

27. Bangui - Capital and the largest city of Central African Republic. It is a city with Equatorial climate. It is located on River Vele, a tributary of River Congo. 

28. Freetown - Located along Atlantic Ocean coast, it is the capital of Sierra Leone. It is the major port of the country. It is a centre for fishing, chemical industry and rice mills. 

29. Addis Ababa - It is Ethiopia’s capital and the country’s largest city and largest industrial centre. Cotton cloth, chemicals food processing industries etc. have developed a lot. 

30. Tripoli - Located along Mediterranean Sea coast, it is the capital of Libya and the country’s largest city. It is a major port city. Cotton industry, chemical industry, food and tobacco processing industry have developed a lot. 

31. Douala - Located along Atlantic Ocean coast, it is the capital and major city of Cameroon. It is also the country’s major port. Here, timber industry, chemical industry, cloth industry, palm oil industry have developed a lot.  

32. Harare - It is the capital and the largest industrial centre of Zimbabwe. Here chemical industry, cloth industry and tobacco processing have developed a lot. Coal is also found here. 

33. Kampala - Located near Equator and along the coast of Lake Victoria, it is the capital and major city of Uganda. It is a centre for sugar industry, tea leaves industry, coffee industry and tobacco industry. 

34. Bamako - Located along the coast of River Niger, it is the capital and largest city of Mali. It is a major commercial and cultural city. It is a centre for cement, food processing and tobacco industries.
