Major OIL Producing Fields of South West Asia - World Geography

1. Dhahran, Abkek, Ghawar, Al Qatif: These all are major oil producing fields of Saudi Arabia. Most of the oil obtained from here is sent to Ras Tanura for refining. One oil refining unit has also been established at Dhahran. The oil obtained from here is exported. 

2. Ras Tanura: Located at the Coast of Persian Gulf, it is a major oil producing field of Saudi Arabia. It has one of the biggest oil refining unit of the world. The oil from here is transported through pipeline to Lebanon’s coastal town Saidan, from where it is exported to European and American countries. 

3. Masjid-e-Sulaymaniyah, Lali: There are Iran’s most important oil producing field, where oil mining commenced initially. The crude oil obtained from here is refined at Abadan oil refinery. 

4. Abadan and Karmarn Shah: It is Iran’s major oil producing centre. Many big oil refineries are located here. The oil refined here is exported in huge amount. 

5. Mosul-Kirkuk: Located in northern part of Iraq, these two towns are Iraq’s major oil producing field. The mineral oil obtained from here is transported through pipeline to Baniyas port in Syria and Tripoli port in Lebanon. From here, it is exported to European and North America. 

6. Burghan: it is the largest oil producing centre of Kuwait. The oil obtained from here is sent to Al-Alina oil refinery located at Gulf coast and from here it is exported to foreign countries. 

7. Aghazari and Gak Saran: These are another important oil field of Iran. Most of the oil obtained from here is sent to Abadan.
